Is it De Quervain’s? Take the 10-Second "Finkelstein Test

🖐️ Is it De Quervain’s? Take the 10-Second "Finkelstein Test"

If you are experiencing wrist or thumb pain, you can perform this simple physical exam used by doctors to diagnose De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis.

How to perform the test:

  1. Tuck the Thumb: Place your thumb across your palm and fold your fingers down over it to make a fist.

  2. The Bend: Keeping your arm straight, gently bend your wrist downwards (toward the floor or toward your little finger).

Understanding Your Results:

  • Positive Result: If you feel a sharp, stabbing pain along the thumb side of your wrist, the test is positive. This indicates that the protective sheath around your tendons is inflamed or thickened.

  • The Solution: Medical guidelines suggest immediate immobilisation to allow the inflammation to subside. Our Base-Support Thumb Splint is specifically engineered to stabilise this exact area.

⚠️ Note: If the pain is severe or persistent, always consult a healthcare professional.

Why This Test Matters for Your Recovery:

When the Finkelstein Test is positive, every "unsupported" movement of your thumb causes the tendon to grate against the inflamed sheath, prolonging your recovery time.

Our splint stops that cycle. By using the exclusive base strap, it prevents the painful "flick" of the tendon while the extra-wide wristband provides the mechanical advantage needed to let the tendons rest and heal.
